John H. Mramba, Kenyan- (Chairperson)

Mr. John Mramba is the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) Pension Fund and the vice-chair of the Council of the Flying Doctors Society of Africa. He is the former chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC), Communication Concepts Limited, Mobil Oil Kenya Community Programme, University of Nairobi-School of Journalism Alumni Association and the Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK). Mramba has also served on other boards including the board of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and St. Luke’s Hospital, Kaloleni in Mombasa. He is the former Managing Director /CEO of CCL-PR, former Secretary General of the Federation of African Public Relations Associations (FAPRA) as well as a member of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA).

Dr. Varinder Singh Sur, Kenyan

Dr. Varinder Singh is a doctor by profession. Currently, he is the Coordinator of Rotary Polio Fund and Rotary Medical Camps. He was District Governor of the Rotary Club from the year 2002 to 2003. Dr. Sur is also a trainer on Rotary Information.

Olive D. Luena, Tanzanian

Ms. Olive Luena is the Chief Executive Officer of the Tanzania Gatsby Trust; a charitable Trust whose mandate is to alleviate poverty through supporting Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) and farmers. She is a member of the National Economic Empowerment Council, The Council of the Bugando Medical University, the Board Chairperson of Foundation for Civil Society (Tanzania). Luena is the founder of Tanzania Association of NGOs (TANGO). She is also a Trustee of Transform Africa; a UK based organization that works in the best possible way to influence a lasting change throughout Africa. In January 2009, she was appointed to serve as a member of the Bretton Woods Committee; a select group of leading international citizens who share a commitment to global problem solving through effective multilateral financial institutions. In February 2014, she was appointed as a member of the Constitutional Assembly for drafting the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania. Luena was the co-founding chairperson of the East Africa Association of Grantmakers. She is an Eisenhower fellow, and also a fellow of the Johns Hopkins University and the Synergos Institute of New York, USA

Ambassador Matiya Lubega, Ugandan

Ambassador Matiya Lubega is a Principal Adviser and Trustee of the Kabaka Foundation. He is the former Chairman of the Nonperforming Assets Trust. He has served as a permanent secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and an ambassador. Amb. Lubega is a former United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Representative to Nigeria and the Gambia.

Prof. Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba, Kenyan

Prof. PLO Lumumba is currently the Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya School of Law. He is an associate Professor of Public Law and Founding Dean, Kabarak University School of Law.  He has lectured law at the University of Nairobi, the United States International University (Africa), Widener University USA (Nairobi Summer School).

Prof. Lumumba is an Advocate of the High Courts of Kenya and Tanzania.  He is a holder of Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws degrees from the University of Nairobi and a LL.D from the University of Ghent, Belgium.  He is a Certified Public Secretary CPS (K) and a Member of the Kenya Institute of Management (MKIM).

He has been trained on Human Rights at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies University of London in England and at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of the University of Lund in Sweden and on International Humanitarian Law in Geneva, Switzerland. Lumumba is a renowned legal practitioner. He has written several books including: Criminal Procedure in Kenya, An outline of Judicial Review in Kenya, Kenya’s long search for a Constitution: The Postponed Promise and Judicial Review and Administrative Law.  He has published numerous articles in refereed journals and several book chapters.

He is a former Secretary of the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission and former Director of the defunct Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission (KACC); the predecessor of Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission. He is also the Founder of the PLO – Lumumba Foundation (a Philanthropy Organization); founding Trustee of the African Institute for Leaders and Leadership (AILL) and founding Chairman of the Association of the Citizens Against Corruption (ACAC). 

Prof. Lumumba was recognized by the Kenya-USA Association for the Martin Luther King Jnr., Leadership Award in 1996 and was the recipient of the 2008 Martin Luther King Africa Salute to Greatness Award by the Martin Luther King Jr. Africa Foundation. He has also been included in the Marquis Who’s Who in the World and is the Distinguished Mwalimu Nyerere Lecturer for 2014.

Sonia Rasugu, Kenyan

Ms. Sonia Rasugu is the Executive Secretary/ Director for Programme Innovation and Capacity Development at the Africa Alliance of YMCA based in Nairobi. The Africa Alliance of YMCA is the coordinating agency for 20 national movements in Africa and also provides technical/capacity enhancement support. Rasugu is a development practitioner with ten years experience. Prior to joining YMCA, she was the Programme Coordinator for Youth Development at the Kenya Community Development Foundation (KCDF), the only public foundation in Kenya. At KCDF, she managed a grant of USD $1.9 Million funded by the World Bank and Japan Social Development Fund which provided sub-grants to 61 youth and youth serving organizations countrywide, trained over 1,000 young people on leadership and social accountability and established a movement of young people for civic participation and economic empowerment called "Shabaa".

She is a strong advocate for youth participation in the social, political and economic development. She has been engaged in numerous voluntary initiatives including serving as the chairperson of Ungana-Young Friends of AMREF. Sonia is also a former member of staff at Ufadhili Trust.

Ambassador Elkanah Odembo, Kenyan

Ambassador Elkanah Odembo is the current Vice-President for Africa, World Council of Credit Unions. He is the immediate former Kenyan Ambassador to United States.  Previously, he served as the Kenyan Ambassador to France and also accredited to Poland, Serbia and the Vatican. Ambassador Odembo has spent over 28 years in community development and advocating for social justice. He is a member of a number of national task forces and committees and is the former chairperson of the Kenya National Council of NGOs. Odembo is the founding director of Ufadhili Trust and managing trustee.

Joyce Waiyaki, Kenyan

Ms. Joyce Wayaki is a marketing practitioner with over 25 years experience. Currently, Joyce runs Ramata Insurance Agency as the principal officer, which provides general, life, investment, pension and offshore advice to individuals and institutions. Waiyaki is the past president of the Rotary Club-Nairobi North from 2009-2010. She is a founder member of the Kenya Women Investment Company Limited, a Trustee of the Palmhouse Foundation and an executive board member of the Centre for Justice and Crime Against Humanity. Waiyaki is the chairperson of the board of governors, Musa Gitau Secondary School and the chairperson of the Presbyterian Church of Eastern Africa (PCEA) of the Torch, Thogoto-Kenya.

June Kivinda, Kenyan

Ms. June Kivinda is a self employed Finance Management Consultant with Earnings Nest Limited. She is engaged in and has extensive knowledge and experience in Finance Management Consultancy work for local and international NGOs; Training Non Finance Managers and Business Owners; Finance Manuals, Policies and Systems Development.  Previously, she worked for the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) as its Africa Region Financial Analyst. She has worked in South, East and West Africa. Ms. Kivinda has also worked with Save the Children (UK), Population Services International (PSI), and the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK). She was a mentor at Cherie Blair Foundation for Women, to December 2013 mentoring women in business. Ms. Kivinda is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and a member of the Member Services Committee with ICPAK Council.

Mumo Kivuitu, Executive Director/Board Secretary

Mr. Mumo Kivuitu is the Executive Director of Ufadhili Trust and one of East Africa’s leading experts in responsible and sustainable business practices. He has been involved in several studies on responsible business in East Africa and led several initiatives aimed at enhancing triple bottom-line business practices in East Africa. He works extensively with companies in the East African region by providing capacity development and technical support on responsible business practices.
